When you bring your dog or cat in for their checkup at Wachusett Animal Hospital, your pet will receive a full “nose-to-tail” diagnostic physical that can help catch issues early, treat current conditions, and prevent health challenges from developing.
What’s Included in a Wellness Exam?
Coat & Skin
During your pet's physical checkup, we will examine their skin or coat for signs of common issues, such as dandruff, lumps, bumps, and abnormal hair loss.
Face & Head
Your pet's eyes, ears, nose, and mouth will be examined for abnormalities or discharge, as well as for symptoms of oral health problems.
Internal Health
Comprehensive internal health exams include checks of heart rate, blood pressure, and organ function to keep your pet’s essential systems in top shape.
Vaccinations & Prevention
Your pet’s exam will also include a review of vaccine schedule and preventative care needs and nutritional care needs.

Kitten and Puppy Wellness Exams
Your furry new family member deserves a healthy start. For kittens and puppies, our wellness exams include the appropriate immunizations, deworming medications, and intestinal parasite testing, in addition to a comprehensive physical exam. Our veterinarians are can answer questions you may have about your new pet and how to keep it healthy, active, and happy.

When should I bring my pet to the emergency room?
If your pet is bleeding, appears to be in pain, has trouble breathing, has eaten something toxic, or displays other concerning symptoms, then your pet may require urgent treatment. Please call (978) 874-4100 if your pet needs emergency care.

Do I have to make an appointment?
No appointments are required for emergencies. If your pet is experiencing an emergency, call our office at (978) 874-4100 to let us know you’re on your way.

Will my pet be seen right away?
Just like at the human emergency room, we treat pets based on a combination of two factors: the urgency and severity of their illness, and when they arrived at our pet emergency clinic. How long you wait to receive care will depend on your unique situation, as well as our doctors’ current volume of patients.
