A Home Away From Home

At Wachusett Animal Hospital we want to help put your mind at ease because we know it can be stressful to leave your pet alone, especially if they are sick or recovering from a surgery/procedure.

We offer complete general pet boarding services for all of our patients. We also have medical cat & dog boarding services for pets with conditions other boarding centers might not be able to accommodate.

In order to provide boarding, medical boarding or day care services to your pet, we require proof of the following:

  • Up to date rabies, DHPP and Bordetella shots
  • Negative fecal test result within the last 6 months
  • Have been spayed or neutered at least 6 months ago
  • Having passed our boarding evaluation

Cat & Dog Boarding

Pet Boarding: A Typical Day

Dog Boarding

Every morning, the dogs venture outside for fresh air and a run before breakfast. While the pups are outside, we clean and disinfect the kennels before stocking them with fresh linens.

Based on their physical capacity and ability, we take all the dogs who stay with us on a scheduled walk.

Your dog will also be supervised throughout their stay with us, during walks and while they rest. In the evenings we serve dinner and then we have one more walk outside before bedtime.

Cat Boarding

We will feed your cat based on your specifications and their requirements, to make sure their routine is the same as it is at home.

Everyday we give every kitty one-on-one interaction (if they want it!) including pets, play and snuggles. We also check, clean and disinfect litter boxes periodically throughout the day.

On top of that, we clean and provide refresh linens to your kitty's room daily. Our cat boarding area is separated from the dog area to make sure your kitty feels safe and relaxed while they stay with us.

Medical Boarding

Your cat or dog will always be supervised by our expert veterinarians and nurses, who will administer medications and closely watch over them. We will give them their required medications on the same schedule they are used to at home.

  • How should I prepare for my pet's stay?

Every animal is different. To prepare for your pet's stay with us, we will take the following steps to make sure we can meet their unique needs.

Step 1: Contact us to get started

Call us to book, and to share details about your pet and your boarding requirements. A member of our team will be happy to coordinate your booking.

Pets must be up to date with all vaccinations and free of fleas and ticks to stay at our facility.

Step 2: Book a boarding evaluation.

We want you to be confident that we are a good fit for your pet before an extended stay. To this end, we ask that all clients book their pet an hour-long boarding evaluation conducted by our vets to ensure that your pet will be a good fit to stay with us.

Step 3: Set your pet up for success

On the day you leave your pet with us, there are several steps you can take to help lower any stress your pet may feel.

Spend some extra time with your pet beforehand, and make sure they get some vigorous exercise so that they are feeling calm. When you arrive at our facility, stay calm, cheerful and confident during the separation.
